Happy Lunar New Year from us here at Euphoric Sun!

Did you know that celebrations for the Lunar New Year traditionally last for 16 whole days? The first day is known as the Spring Festival and celebrations wrap up on the last day with the Lantern Festival!

Lunar New Year is not only celebrated in China, but also in many Eastern and Southeastern Asian countries. But just because this is a holiday primarily celebrated by the Asian population, it doesn’t mean it’s traditions shouldn’t be shared with everyone!

Here are some ways to get yourself into the Lunar New Year spirit!

1.Clean up your house!

It is believed that cleaning up the house drives away any bad luck from the previous year and prepares one for the new year ahead! The cleaning must be done prior to the first day of Lunar New Year, doing it the day of Lunar New Year is said to drive out the good luck. For those of you with large makeup collections, this is the perfect time to finally declutter and organize!

2. Wear red!

The color red represents happiness, beauty, vitality, good luck, success, and good fortune. The best way to make sure you manifest good vibes this year is to embrace the bold color for the entirety of the Lunar New Year celebration. We recommend pairing your outfit with Euphoric Sun’s Tang Dynasty Palette, which features various gorgeous reds, pinks, and golds as well as other complimentary colors, of course! We also recommend Euphoric Sun’s Qing Bunny Blush! Honestly, the more red, the better!

3. Reunite with friends and family

Text that friend you haven’t spoken to in awhile and catch up! Facetime your grandparents and tell them how much you miss them! Call your parents and let them know you love them! If you start off the new year with this positive energy, warmth, and love, you are sure to prosper!

4. Try and enjoy popular Lunar New Year desserts!

One of the best parts about celebrating traditional holidays is the excuse to gorge yourself on some delicious foods! One food that is a staple of the Lunar New Year is Nian Gao, aka New Year Cake. It is a sweet rice cake that can be enjoyed throughout the year, but is eaten the most during Lunar New Year. Eating it is said to increase prosperity and promotions! Various Asian desserts are eaten during the Lunar New Year, and if you weren’t already aware, Euphoric Sun features shimmery highlighters based on various Asian desserts! Lunar New Year is the perfect time to immerse yourself in Asian culture and the best way to do that is through food!

5. Learn about the Chinese Zodiac

The Lunar calendar follows a 12 year cycle and each year is represented by 12 animals that form the Chinese Zodiac. This year, 2022, is the year of the Tiger. People who are born in the year of the Tiger are predicted to be brave, competitive, unpredictable, and confident. The tiger is known as the king of all beasts in China and is a symbol of strength and braveness. Just like with the astrological zodiac, the year in which you were born can theoretically dictate your personality as well as other aspects of a horoscope (like things that will bring a Tiger luck or bad luck).

A little known fact about the Chinese Zodiac is that each year not only corresponds to a certain animal, but also a certain element. For example, the year, 2022, is a Water Tiger. It’s theorized that a person's characteristics are not only decided by their birth year zodiac animal sign but also by the element of the animal.

There are actually five types of Tigers, each with different characteristics: the Wood Tiger, the Fire Tiger, the Earth Tiger, the Gold/Metal Tiger, and the Water Tiger. Water Tigers are said to have a strong sense of self-esteem and learning ability.

Some famous people who were born on the Year of the Tiger are:

  • Queen Elizabeth II: born on April 21, 1926, a Fire Tiger
  • Tom Cruise: born on July 3, 1962, a Water Tiger
  • Leonardo DiCaprio: born on November 11, 1974, a Wood Tiger
  • Lady Gaga: born on March 28, 1986, a Fire Tiger

The Lunar New Year season is the perfect time to immerse yourself in the history and culture surrounding the Chinese Zodiac. It’s always interesting and fun to see how accurate a horoscope can be!
